Elite Schools Cup Mainland Zone’s second phase begins 

The Ikeja leg of the Elite Schools Championship for private secondary schools in Lagos State has started following the successful conclusion of the Mainland Zone hosted by Kith and Keen College, Ikorodu.

The second phase is holding at the Air Force Base College, Ikeja. At the conclusion of the first phase of the Elite Schools Cup tourney, Frontrunner College won the boys’ football event, while Davidhall College won the girls finals.

In basketball, Topfield College won the boys category, while Kingsfield College won the girls class.

According to the organisers of the championship, the Elite Schools Cup, which is aimed at discovering and exposing more talented youths, has so far been successful, as new talents were discovered in the first phase of the championship.

Speaking on the progress of the championship, MD Elite Schools Cup, Shokoya Olayinka, said: “The first phase of the ongoing Elite Schools Cup competition was concluded at the Mainland Conference with Kith & Kin College hosting 10 schools in different sports.

“The Elite Schools Cup is divided into two zones, Atlantic Zone and Mainland Zone.

“The schools in the Atlantic Conference are on the Island. After the zonal championships, finalists from the zones will converge for the national finals of the Elite Schools Cup in November,” he said.

Over 90 schools are participating in this year’s Elite Schools Cup Championship in such sports as athletics, football, basketball, volleyball, E-Sport, chess and scrabble, among others.
