NIGERIA league champions Enyimba will start their title defence against Rivers United, formerly Dolphins, in Port Harcourt tomorrow.

Enyimba will have to be at their best to get something out of the game to pacify their fans after a run of poor results recently.

‘The People’s Elephant’ lost their CAF Champions League game to Vipers in Uganda, failed to win the pre-season Super 4 and lost the Charity Shield to Akwa United on Wednesday.

Enyimba have a good coach in Paul Aigbogun and have been one of the busiest on the transfer market in the off-season during which they signed several top stars like Theophilus Afelokai from Kano Pillars, Joseph Osadiaye of Warri Wolves and Christian Pyagbara from relegated Sharks.

Rivers United only escaped the drop on the last day of last season with a point at 3SC in Ibadan.

Enyimba goalkeeper Femi Thomas said they have put the loss in the Charity Cup behind them as they aim for good start in the new season.

“We have put the loss to Akwa United in Charity Cup behind us,” he said.
