With two days to the commencement of the 2016 Nigeria Premier League season, the management of Warri Wolves has engaged the services of a new coach, former international, Peter Nieketien. He takes over from another ex-international, Sam Okpodu, who until yesterday was the chief coach of the club.

Wolves have also parted ways with its General Manager, former Super Eagles player, Edema Fuludu. In his place is the team manager, Gordons Ogbe.

Chairman of Delta Sports Commission, Tony Okowa told The Guardian yesterday that the decision to bring in new officials followed alleged refusal by the duo of Okodu and Fuludu to come terms with the Commission on amount to be paid as monthly salaries.

“We have a new Technical Adviser (John Fhrell) and the body language of Okpodu shows that he don’t want to work with him. He is demanding a huge monthly salary we can’t afford to pay. Edema Fuludu says he does not want any player to earn more than him. We all know the situation of things in the country now and we don’t want to make promises we won’t be able to meet,” Okowa said.

Contacted yesterday, Fuludu said he would lose his respect as the Club General Manager if he accept the monthly salary lower than what his players earns.

“Beside, the issue of monthly salary, they need to threat us with some respect,” Fuludu said.
Okpodu could not be reached for comment yesterday. Warri Wolves will travel to Enugu to face Enugu Rangers this weekend, as the league kick off across the country.
