NPFL: Enyimba strengthen squad with nine new players

In their efforts to return to the top of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) table, record champions, Enyimba Football Club of Aba, have recruited nine new players to shore up their squad as the league gets to the business end.
Uncharacteristically, Enyimba is currently languishing in 11th position on the 20-team table. To get any opportunity to play in the continent next season, they must finish among the first three in the NPFL. The other chance of going into any CAF competition next season is by winning the President’s FA Cup this term.
The Peoples Elephant lost their week 25 game to Katsina United 0-2 yesterday and, therefore, are 14 points (34) behind leaders, Remo Stars, who have amassed 48 points from 24 games.
The new signings include a centreback, Afolanyan Peters from Heartland FC, attacking midfielder Opeoluwa Olufemi from Sunshine Stars, and striker Junior Lokosa. Defensive midfielder Gozie Umeh, also joins the team from Sunshine Stars, while midfielder Quadiri Olusunkanmi makes the switch from Heartland FC.
Left-back Solomon Onome has also joined the team, bringing his expertise to the defensive line. Additionally, Nelson Michael, who previously played for Shashemene Kanema in Ethiopia, has also joined the team alongside defender Ebube Michael.
Speaking on the recruits, Enyimba Chairman, Kanu Nwankwo, expressed his delight at the new additions, stating: “We are thrilled to welcome these talented players to our squad. They bring a wealth of experience, skill, and passion, which will undoubtedly strengthen our team.”
The new signings are expected to bring their wealth of experience to bear as Enyimba FC pushes for a strong finish to the season.
