Top Three Nigerian Footballers in Europe This Weekend

Paul Onuachu (Trabzonspor, Turkey)

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu continued his impressive goalscoring run in the Turkish Super Lig, netting a brace to help Trabzonspor thrash Samsunspor 3–0 on Saturday.

Onuachu has been in rich form for the Black Sea Storm throughout the 2025/26 season, and he maintained that momentum during Trabzonspor’s visit to the Samsun 19 Mayıs Stadyumu.

The lanky forward opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, rising highest to head home a cross from Ernest Muçi. The effort deflected off a defender before rolling into the net.

He appeared to have doubled his tally in the 55th minute, but the goal was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for a foul in the build-up. Undeterred, the Nigerian striker grabbed his second legitimate goal in the 81st minute, converting a low cross from Umut Nayir to put the result beyond doubt.

Onuachu was substituted for Okay Yokuşlu in the 89th minute and remains the Turkish Super Lig’s leading scorer this season with 15 goals from 18 appearances.

The 31-year-old also boasts the highest goal conversion ratio among players who have scored more than five goals this campaign. According to Opta Can, he has further etched his name into Trabzonspor history as the first foreign player to score against Samsunspor in both league meetings during a single Super Lig season.

Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray, Turkey)

Victor Osimhen was also on target this weekend, helping Galatasaray to a convincing 3–0 victory over Çaykur Rizespor in the Turkish Super Lig.

Barış Yılmaz headed Galatasaray into the lead from a Noa Lang cross before turning provider shortly after the hour mark, setting up Yunus Akgün to double the advantage. Osimhen then sealed the win in the 73rd minute with a moment of composure, skipping past Rizespor goalkeeper Yahia Fofana before finishing into an empty net from a tight angle.

Despite picking up a yellow card in second-minute stoppage time of the first half (45+2), Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk kept the Super Eagles forward on the pitch for the entire match.

Osimhen has now scored nine league goals in 15 Super Lig matches this season, and 15 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions, capping another outstanding campaign.

Two weeks ago, he reached the 50-goal milestone for Galatasaray, becoming the fastest player to do so in the club’s history. He achieved the feat in just 59 appearances—10 fewer than former record-holder Mauro Icardi—according to Transfermarkt. The Nigerian has since moved on to 52 goals for the club, overtaking Bafétimbi Gomis as Galatasaray’s fourth highest-scoring foreign player of all time.

Osimhen will look to further boost his tally when Galatasaray host Eyüpspor in their next Super Lig fixture on Friday.

Tolu Arokodare (Wolverhampton Wanderers, England)

Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare also found the net in England, though his goal proved to be only a consolation as Chelsea secured a 3–1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in Saturday’s Premier League clash at Molineux.

Chelsea raced into a commanding 3–0 lead inside 38 minutes, with Cole Palmer scoring a first-half hat-trick to put the visitors firmly in control.

Arokodare offered Wolves a glimmer of hope in the second half, pulling one back in the 54th minute after being set up by new signing and fellow forward Adam Armstrong.

The goal ended Arokodare’s eight-game Premier League goal drought and marked his second strike of the season in 21 top-flight appearances. The 25-year-old has, however, shown a knack for scoring against elite opposition, having previously netted in Wolves’ 2–1 defeat to league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on December 13, 2025.

According to Football in Nigeria, Arokodare’s goal against Chelsea was “a timely reminder of his threat in front of goal and his value to Wolves as a key offensive outlet,” adding that scoring in a demanding Premier League fixture could significantly boost the striker’s confidence as he continues to build his profile in England’s top flight.
