Ghana’s Black Galaxies talk tough, promise
• CHAN Eagles depart for Accra today
Determined to ensure that they stopped the home-based Super Eagles from qualifying for another African Nations Championship (CHAN), Ghana’s Black Galaxies have taken to the gym to build up their muscles for the big fight this weekend.
The Ghanaians will host Nigeria in Accra on Sunday and come to Uyo for the final and decisive leg of the game, which will decide which of the two teams will qualify for the 2025 African Nations Championship billed to hold in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya.
According to reports from Ghana, the Black Galaxies focused on weight and fitness training on Tuesday and Wednesday at the University of Ghana and Accra Sports Stadium respectively under the supervision of the Black Galaxies physios and coaching staff.
Coach Mas Ud Didi Dramani is expected to have a fully fit 23-man squad to select his team for the must-win game against the old rivals.
Preparations have been intense, culminating in a morale-boosting 2-0 victory over Togo in a friendly match in Lome last Wednesday.
The team’s preparations began with an initial 32-man squad undergoing rigorous training, which has been trimmed to 23.Ghana defeated Nigeria in the qualifiers to advance to the 2023 CHAN tournament and Coach Dramani’s side will be looking to build on this and ensure qualification to the 2025 CHAN tournament which will be staged in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
Meanwhile, the home-based Super Eagles contingent will depart for Ghana today to continue their preparation for Sunday’s game. According to Coach Daniel Ogunmodede, the 29-man squad will be trimmed to 18 players before the team departs for Accra aboard a Valuejet Airline flight by 10.00 a.m.
The Nigerians have been locked up at the Remo Stars Sports Complex for the better of three weeks undergoing tutorials from the technical crew, led by Austin Eguavoen.
