The two-week camping period for young boxers who discovered at the GOtv Boxing NextGen Search came to an end yesterday.

A total of 28 boxers were selected from over a hundred boxers who participated in the talent hunt.

From that figure, 15 were adjudged to have shown greater potential by the judges’ panel, headed by famous boxing coach, Joe Mensah.

The 15 members camped at the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame Gym, where they underwent intensive training under the watchful eyes of top coaches.

Their camping period also took in seminar by Mr. Folorunsho Jacobs, a coordinator of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C), African Boxing Union and World Boxing Council. Jacobs took the new entrants to the professional cadre through the technical and attitudinal requirements for professional boxing.

Some of the 15 new entrants have been selected to take part at the GOtv Boxing Night 6, scheduled for 25 of March at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos.

GOtv Boxing NextGen Search ran for three days last month, featuring sparring sessions over two days, through which the boxers were selected, a sport/medical seminar and free medical examination for licensed professional boxers.

Those selected from the exercise also had their professional licences paid for the sponsors, GOtv Boxing.

Speaking at the end of the exercise, Jenkins Alumona, CEO of Flykite Promotions, promoters of the GOtv Boxing Night, thanked the sponsors and expressed delight at the quantum of talent unveiled.
