Green House has won the 2018 inter-house sports competition organised by Eaglesflight Nursery and Primary School located at Diamond Estate, Isheri-Olofin, Lagos State.

During the competition, which featured march past, toddlers, nursery, lower nursery, upper nursery and parents’ events, Green House came first in overall, Yellow House took the second position, while Blue House placed third.

Speaking at the competition, Director of the school, Dr. (Mrs.) Mojisola Olutimilehin said the role of sports activities in developing the wholesome child should not be underestimated, stating that sports, apart from developing a competitive spirit in children, releases energy and joy into the school environment, which fosters friendship among children of diverse natures, characters and backgrounds.

Dr. Olutimilehin said winning and losing together also helps children acquire the spirit of sportsmanship, which would equip them to survive as they enter into adulthood facing the challenges of growing up.

According to her, sports activities at school provide opportunities for children to participate in different types of exercises that are important for a healthy physical development.

She also said that as the pupils practice and prepare together, they develop social skills, which they put to use immediately and then fine-tune with time as they develop into adults and citizens.

In her remarks, Head Teacher of the school, Mrs. Jane Eboigbe described inter house sports as part of learning, adding that physical education is a subject that is offered by the school, which children need to build their system and for growth too.

According to Mrs. Eboigbe, learning in the classroom all day without coming out for physical education would make children dull. “As a school, we need our children to exercise themselves and have fun. The core objective of the sport is to build confidence among our pupils,” she added.
