Hosting pentathlon qualifiers, African championship, a miracle, says Ogboro
The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the just concluded Modern Pentathlon Youth Olympic Games qualifiers and the Senior African Championship in Lagos, Chief Francis Ogboro, has said that is was another ‘Miracle of Damma’ for them to have achieved such success with three months of planning.
South Africa topped the medal table with three gold, three silver and one bronze medal at the end of the competition, beating Nigeria to the second position.
Ogboro, who is also the president of the Nigeria Polo Federation told The Guardian yesterday that it would have been difficult for another nation to put together the fantastic show Nigeria put up considering the short period of three months the LOC had.
“The president of African Modern Pentathlon and those of other nations that attended the event in Lagos continue to praise us for the miraculous way we organised the Youth Olympic Games qualifiers and the Senior African Championship just within three months. No other nation could have done this, and I must commend other members of the LOC for a job well done,” Ogboro stated.
He hinted that the team of marketing consultants, who assured the LOC of raising N75million for the Games could not live up to their promises.
