Hosts launch Commonwealth Mile, Kelvingrove Park Game

Glasgow 2026 has marked one week to go until the start of the Games by revealing its Commonwealth Mile installation and sharing more details of the Kelvingrove Park Game On Live Site programme.

Finnie, the Glasgow 2026 mascot, was joined by Games volunteers and young people from Barmulloch Community Development Company yesterday to officially open the Commonwealth Mile alongside the River Clyde.

Glasgow 2026 is revealing the mile-long installation one week before the opening ceremony to mark the return of this iconic athletics event to the Commonwealth Games.

The Glasgow 2026 Men’s and Women’s One Mile Finals are taking place at Scotstoun Stadium on August 1.

Running from Clyde Place Quay in Tradeston, across the river on the Squiggly Bridge and west towards the SEC, the Commonwealth Mile gives people the opportunity to experience the distance that will be covered in this hotly anticipated track event. Two Glasgow 2026 archways indicate either end of the distance, with markers featuring mascot Finnie, along the Mile.

Travelling along the Commonwealth Mile is just one of many activities people can get involved in during Glasgow 2026, with more details of the programme for the Kelvingrove Park Game On Live Site also published yesterday.

Children, young people and families can look forward to gathering in the park to enjoy free activities, performances, sport and live screenings over the 11 days of Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games action.

More than 20 sports will be represented at the park, with local sporting groups and organisations offering fun and interactive ways to get involved and try them to inspire future athletes.
