The captain of Ibori Golf and Country Club, Patrick Ukah, has lauded Delta State Governor, Oborevweri, for his “avowed and unwavering commitment to sports development” of the State.
Ukah, who is also the Director General of the Asaba Capital Territory Development Agency, Ibori Golf and Country Club, Asaba, made the commendation when his team played an inter-club friendly match with Ikoyi Golf Club 1938, Lagos, in Asaba, the State capital, marking the ongoing second celebration of Oborevweri’s administration.
The event, which drew celebrated golfers and top government functionaries, was to pay tribute to the governor’s unwavering dedication to sports development, as well as showcase the Asaba Golf Tourism Centre.
While projecting Delta State as an emerging golf tourism destination, Patrick Ukah noted that within two years, the governor had made notable progress across various sporting disciplines.
“The governor has excelled in sports development in all ramifications. This event is part of our way to celebrate that success,” Ukah said.
Also, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Kingsley Emu, described golf as fostering unity among elites.
“Golf is not an all-comers affair. It is a fantastic game that builds connections and promotes friendships,” he remarked.
Visiting players from the Ikoyi Golf Club 1938, including Oluwaseun Mendes and Anscy Okoebor, also described golf as a deeply rewarding sport.
“Although people may underrate it, golf is very technical, expensive, and mind-challenging. But it is worth every swing,” said Mendes.
For Okoebor, the essence of the game lies in the experience. “You don’t expect much in golf. Instead, you get what golf gives you in return. We are here to enjoy the game and build lasting connections,” he added.
