The President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Daniel Igali, has commended the sporting and developmental drive of the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Chris Musa, including capacity building of military personnel.
Commending Gen. Musa for sponsoring Lt.Col Timipre Okou to Morocco for the third World Beach Wrestling Series, and African Beach Wrestling Championship for U-15, U-17 and U-20 age categories, an elated Igali said the CDS’s support for sports development has contributed much to the country’s efforts to regain its lost glory in sports.
The championships started in Casablanca, Morocco, on September 2 and will end on September 8.
He said: “We are very proud of the innovations of the CDS aimed at enhancing the ability and capacity building of military personnel to perform complex tasks, which will aid national and regional security environments.
“The CDS’ regular sponsorship of our sportsmen to international programmes and refresher courses will further expose the military officers to global security awareness and tactical skills to handle salient issues.
“We believe with such collaboration and support from individuals and organisations, Nigerian Wrestling will keep being on the path of progress.”
Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Okou, who is an international wrestling referee and member of the Sports Science Commission of the International Military Sports Council, will participate in a three-day World Beach Wrestling Referee course before officiating at the African Beach Wrestling Championships in Casablanca.
