FORMER Super Eagles Captain, Henry Nwosu, has blamed the ‘win at all cost syndrome’ for the lack of depth in both the Super Eagles and the Super Falcons’ squads.

The former coach of Under-17 national team side, Golden Eaglets, who said he planned to groom a set of quality players for the Super Eagles while he was in charge of the cadet team, said he could not achieve his aim due to some officials impatience.
“I can recall what I was doing when I was the chief coach of the Golden Eaglets before I was butted out from the team. Then I had schoolboys in my team, and I can remember I mentioned it to some journalists then that I was grooming a team that will represent Nigeria for the next 10 to 15 years, just as it was when I started playing with the Greater Tomorrow. That was what I was doing, before the baton changed hands,” he said.

Nwosu, who said he will always clamour for players of the right age to be featured at age grade competitions, said: “ I always advise our coaches to come to the grassroots and look for players with the right age that can represent this country. But the problem that we have in this country is that Nigerians want result immediately.
“Age grade competitions are for development; if the coaches were allowed to do their jobs the way it should be done, we would keep on producing very good young players that can represent this country at any level.
“That is if those running football in the country don’t give us a ‘win at all cost’ mandate. The win at all cost syndrome is the reason why we no longer have talented footballers again in the Super Eagles.”
