GBADAMOSI Tayo and Zainab Moruf of Isheri Grammar School, Magodo, Lagos on Thursday emerged champions of the boys and girls Kandaval Inter-School Table Tennis Championship held at the Isheri Grammar School Ground, Magodo, Lagos.

The tournament, a grassroots talent-hunt programme organised by the Kandaval Communications Limited, is aimed to restore table tennis to its enviable height through the discovery of new talents for the sport.

At the occasion filled with funfairs, saw the defending champion, Tayo humbled his schoolmate, Afeez Kareem 11-7,15-14, 11-5 to keep his title, while Zainab summarily dismissed Folashade Eletu of Jubril Martins Secondary School 11-7, 11-1 to claim the girls’ crown.

For their efforts, each complete mini-table tennis set donated by AD Rosan Limited, trophies, tablets and medals and other consolation prizes were presented to the players.

Sponsor of the event and the Chief Executive Officer of Kandaval Communications Limited, Tony Obot, said the Kandaval Cup, which started as a child’s play has begun to take shape unexpectedly. “Today, Kandaval Cup is a life of its own, the tournament is getting bigger. What started as a child’s play has suddenly blossomed,” he said.

Obot, however, promised that the act of discovering more talents for the sport will continue God’s willing.
