Jamaica upsets U.S. in 4×1 at Penn Relays

Jamaica upstaged USA teams to win the “USA versus the World” men’s 4x100m clash at Penn Relays on Saturday.

The Jamaican quartet of Jermaine Hamilton, Julian Foote, Rasheed Dwyer and Oshane Bailey, in that running order, crossed the finish line in 38.70.

“To come out here and beat the USA, our main rival, it’s always a good feeling,” said Forte.

The Jamaica team was without regulars Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell, Nesta Carter, Yohan Blake, Nickel Ashmeade and Kemar Bailey-Cole.

USA Blue with Sean McLean, Wallace Spearmon, Calesio Newman and Remontay McClain finished second with 39.02, while St. Kitts and Nevis’ team of Jason Rogers, Antoine Adams, Allistar Clarke and Brijesh Lawrance took third in 39.49secs.

USA Red team of Mike Rogers, Justin Gatlin, Tyson Gay and Isiah Young crossed the line fourth in 39.74, but was disqualified for passing out of the zone on the final exchange.

In the women version, Team USA Red started the day strong, as the quartet of Tianna Bartoletta (Tampa, Florida), Candyce McGrone (Indianapolis), Kimberlyn Duncan (Katy,Texas)  and Carmelita Jeter (Los Angeles) finished in 42.61 for the win. Jeter held off Jamaica’s Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce whose team was second in 42.90, and the USA Blue team of Dezerea Bryant (Milwaukee, Wisconsin), Kaylin Whitney (Clermont, Florida), Miki Barber (Montclair, New Jersey) and Cambrya Jones in fourth at 43.71.
