Kenya beats Nigeria 43–12 in Rugby Africa Sevens quarter-final

Kenya Morans cruised into the semi-finals of the 2025 Rugby Africa Sevens after defeating Nigeria Stallions 43–12 in a dominant quarter-final display on Sunday.

The win capped a strong group-stage campaign in which Kenya emerged unbeaten in Pool A, securing victories against Ghana, Uganda, and Côte d’Ivoire. Sunday’s result extends the Morans’ winning streak to four matches in the tournament.

“Morans are a young team for sure but with a blend of experience they will continue to better their performances focusing on the next game,” Kenya head coach Louis Kisia said after the match.

The Morans are scheduled to face Madagascar in the semi-final later today at 12:13 p.m. EAT, aiming for a spot in the final and a chance to reclaim the continental title last won in 2023.

Kenya entered the tournament as one of the top-performing nations in Rugby Africa Sevens history, having won four titles. The side’s record includes appearances at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in 2018 and 2022, and Olympic qualification in 2016 and 2024.

A tournament victory in Mauritius would secure Kenya one of the two available slots in SVNS Division 3, expanding their access to global competition. Although Kenya’s senior side, Shujaa, already holds core team status in the 2024/2025 HSBC SVNS series following a win over Germany in the Madrid play-off, further development opportunities remain a key goal for the program.

The Morans’ latest performance comes after a disappointing sixth-place finish in both legs of the 2024 Rugby Africa Sevens. A 2025 championship win would represent a significant turnaround and boost morale ahead of future international fixtures.
