Lagos set to hold deaf schools athletics tourney
A TWO-DAY Deaf Schools Athletics Championship for education district six (Badagry) by the Lagos State Deaf Sports Association is billed to begin on Thursday at the Nigerian French Village, Badagry, Lagos.
The chairman of the association, Revd Samuel Ikpea, said the challenge is expected to feature 15 public and three private schools in events as 100 meters, 200 meters among others.
According to him, “the championship is designed to enable the association scouts for talents among the deaf students as well as nurturing talents discovered for future representation of the state in national competitions.”
Ikpea said the ambition of the association is to develop deaf sports in all the six education districts in the state.
The organisers, however, said consolation prizes would be given to every participant aside from educational materials that would be given to winners among other items.
