The Lagos State finals for the 2022 edition of Nigeria’s biggest secondary school sporting event, Maltina School Games, will be held at the Yaba College of Technology, Akoka, Lagos from Wednesday 9th till Friday 11th March, 2022.

Over 200 public and private secondary schools in Lagos will be participating in this year’s edition of the Maltina School Games, but only school teams that come tops at the State finals will make it to the National Finals happening in the heart of Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Speaking on the upcoming event, Portfolio Manager, Non-Alcoholic drinks, NB Plc, Omotunde Adenusi said: “At Maltina, it’s our utmost desire to be an integral part of child development in the country through school sports. Since the inception of the Maltina School Games in 2019, we’ve been awed by the number of grassroot sport talents we’ve been able to impact, groom and prepare for the global stage. At this year’s edition again, we plan to make national stars out of local talented athletes by providing a platform for them to hone and showcase their Athletic abilities.”

With a Nationwide participation of over a thousand schools, competition at the Maltina School Games is keen, as young sport champions contend for mouth-watering prizes comprising medals, a whopping cash prize of half a million naira plus other freebies like laptops and educational tablets. This year, the overall winner of the Maltina School Games will not only be celebrated as a record-breaking athlete of the year but will also represent Nigeria at the World School Games holding in China in November later this year.

Participating young athletes in the Maltina School Games have a chance to shine at a variety of track and field events and games sessions such as 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m, and 800m races, long jump, high jump and Javelin, Chess and Scrabble Competitions.

The State finals will be held not only in Lagos but also across major cities such as Akwa Ibom, Kaduna, Jos and Kano.
