The final of this year’s Mindganes Scrabble Premier league (MSPL), and the Patrons Cup, which began yesterday will end today at the NEBO Hall, NA Ordnance Barracks, Lagos.

According to the MSPL, organisers of the Scrabble Premier League, which was introduced in 2019 as a team championship where top players in Scrabble organised themselves into groups and compete across selected cities in the country over four weekends, have assisted to promote and create more awareness about the sport in the country.

The teams would be engaged in the MSPL, the Patrons Cup, which is now in it’s second edition would be the battle ground for individuals to also win cash prizes as well as a trophy in the two day finale.

Both competitions will hold side-by-side at the same venue. MGi Chief, Lukeman Owolabi, stated that his year’s grand finale would be highly competitive owing to the fact that all the best Scrabble players across Nigeria would be competing for honours representing different clubs with their teammates in the MSPL championship.

“This year grand finale of the MSPL Cup will see top teams win N6 million as star prize, while the Patrons Cup is N150, 000. There will be also be a MSPL team owners retreat Dinner on October 9 at Raddison Blue, Victoria Island. This event is to discuss with club owners on more things to be done to promote the Scrabble Premier league.

Other activities line up this month is the MGI Scrabble Grand slam scheduled for 0ctober 14,” he said.

After three weekends of action in Lagos, Benin and Abuja in the Scrabble league, Division A leaders, Airpop Alpha, will hope to wade off some fierce challenges and sustain their lead on the table, as they head into the Matchday 4 and 5 with 26 wins and 10 loses.

Lekki Bombers and Bulldozers occupy the second and third positions with 22 wins and 14 defeats, but are only separated by individual player’s record.

Defending champions, Brainiacs, are fourth on the log with 20 victories in 36 rounds. Hurricanes and Bayelsa Maestros are in 5th and 6th position on the log.

The Indomitables and Supremes occupy the seventh and eighth positions. Gracious Pickers Team A, Tekena Drones, Phoenix and Sterling Bombers complete the 12-team table in the Scrabble league.

Teams will also be competing in the division 2 of the Mind Games Premier Scrabble league. Meanwhile, American firm, Scopely, owner of ScrabbleGO app, will broadcast the matches live.
