The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (RMFF) has announced that it is now focusing on hosting the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), following the resolution of its appeal over the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.
The statement comes after the CAF Appeals Board overturned Senegal’s 1–0 on-field victory over Morocco in the AFCON 2025 final held in Rabat on January 18.
The Appeals Board ruled that Senegal’s walk-off in protest of a late penalty amounted to a forfeiture under Articles 82 and 84 of AFCON regulations. Morocco had earlier challenged a decision by CAF’s Disciplinary Committee, which had dismissed its forfeiture claim against Senegal.
In a statement released Wednesday, the Moroccan FA clarified that the appeal did not question the “sporting performance” of the final but sought to “demand respect for AFCON laws, integrity, and fairness.”
The federation added that Morocco now “looks forward with confidence” to hosting the 2026 WAFCON and competing in the FIFA World Cup.
Originally scheduled for March 17 to April 3, the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco was postponed to July 25 due to “unforeseen circumstances” and to ensure the smooth execution of the tournament.
The defending WAFCON champions, Nigeria’s Super Falcons, claimed a record-extending 10th title by defeating Morocco in the previous edition’s final.
