My best is yet to come, says Kadima

Shortly after his emergence as the best boxer at GOtv Boxing Night 25, which fetched him the N1 million cash prize attached to the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, last weekend, Stephen Kadima pointed his hands to the sky and said: “This is a remarkable achievement in my boxing career and I will forever remain grateful to those who made it possible.”

After his celebration inside the ring, Kadima told The Guardian in a brief chat said: “I never thought of winning my fight not to talk of emerging the best boxer here in Ibadan.”

Kadima, who turned professional last uyear and appearing in his first GOtv Boxing Night, won the hearts of many Ibadan fans with his agility, foot walk, aggressiveness and heavy punches, which gave him victory against his bigger opponent, Michael ‘Emirate’ Godwin at Liberty Stadium. He was adjudged the best boxer of the event by a panel of sports journalists.

He thanked the sponsors for making the GOtv Boxing Night a platform for identifying and developing talented boxers from across the country.

“I’m happy to have won the best boxer prize and the N1million attached to it. I thank GOtv for making this happen. I’m so excited. I’m more excited by their support for boxing and boxers. They have assisted the growth of the sport for a long time. Though, today is the first time I participated at GOtv Boxing Night, I had been watching it, and I thank the sponsors,” he said.

The GOtv Boxing Night 25 in Ibadan featured seven bouts across weight divisions.
