Nathaniel Idowu U-14 Football League lights up Ajegunle

Potential football stars from Apapa, Lagos and its environs have converged on the Nathaniel Idowu Football Pitch, Oregie, Ajegunle, to participate in the Nathaniel Idowu Foundation U-14 Football League, which made its debut at the weekend.
 
The competition is seen by many of the participants as the gateway to their dream of earning careers in professional football, hence they arrived at the competition determined to make their mark.
 
The opening weekend delivered drama and delight, with 21 goals scored across six matches.
 
Fortune FC stole the show with a commanding 5-0 victory over Divinely Blessed FC, while Strong Dove FC matched the fireworks with a 5-1 defeat of Best of Best FC.
 
Elsewhere, Michael May FC and Ajegunle United battled to a 1–1 draw, Pure Talents FC defeated Coal City FC 2-0, Bright Future FC edged Moree Wins FC 2-1, and Sharp Talent FC celebrated a 2-0 win over Young 11 FC.
 
The league, organised by the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Sports Council, with support from the Nathaniel Idowu Foundation, will run for 11 weeks, featuring 12 teams from across Lagos State. The top four will advance to a Super Four showdown, where the champion will be crowned.
 
The prizes range from N500,000 for the champions, N300,000 for runners-up, N200,000 for third place, N75,000 for fourth place, to N50,000 each for fifth and sixth-place teams.
 
And while the boys battle for glory, the girls will not be left out. A 10-week programme tagged “Let Her Play” will run from February 7 to April 11 at the New Maracana Stadium, giving secondary school girls the chance to train, compete, and dream of their own footballing future.
