New football hub launched to grow grassroots talent in Lagos

The football-mad community of Ikotun in Alimosho has received a fresh injection of hope for its young talents with the launch of the Kasali Kudus Sports Complex, a privately built facility designed to nurture grassroots football.

Unveiled on September 14 at Bonjour Sport Complex, Irepodun Street, Okerube, the new hub sits under the Kasali Kudus Foundation and boasts an artificial-turf pitch built for 8-a-side football. It becomes only the second privately-owned football facility in the area, after Seamoriow Sports Complex, and is already being hailed as a vital step towards grooming future stars

Declaring the complex open for public use, almost three months after its initial commissioning, founder Kasali Kudus said the project was born out of a desire to give back to the community and create a safe, structured space for young people.

According to him, the facility represents more than just a football pitch. It is intended as a platform where boys and girls can develop their skills, remain positively engaged, and be inspired to pursue professional opportunities in football.

The launch event featured exhibition matches between local youth teams and football academies, drawing coaches, grassroots football enthusiasts and residents from across Alimosho. With its modern lighting system for night games, spectator-friendly design and durable playing surface, the facility is expected to host a blend of recreational fixtures, training programmes, and community competitions.

The Kasali Kudus Foundation, already known for its youth empowerment efforts, has mapped out regular coaching clinics, mentorship programmes, and talent-discovery initiatives to run from the complex. Its long-term ambition is to provide a clear pathway for promising youngsters in Ikotun to break into professional football both at home and abroad.

With Lagos State continuing to position itself as a hub for football development, the Kasali Kudus Sports Complex adds to the momentum in Ikotun, ensuring that more grassroots talents get the platform they need to thrive.
