Nigeria is third best at CANA Zone Two Swimming Championship

SwimmingNigerian swimmers garnered 35 medals in the just concluded CANA Zone Two Championship in Senegal to finish as the third best team of the tournament.

According to a statement made available to The Guardian, Senegal, the host country, placed first ahead of Mali, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.

At the end of the three-day championship, Team Nigeria won 10 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze medals.

The Nigerian women team won more than 75 per cent of the total female medals at the tournament, a feat that earned them the best female team award at the championship.

Ifeakochukwu Nmor, who won the 50m butterfly, received an award as best performance swimmer (male), while team Nigeria’s mixed medley relay team set a new record in 4 x 100m.

Every member of the Nigeria swimming contingent won personal medal from every event.

At the end of the event, president of the Swimming and Life Saving Federation of Senegal, Dr. Mohammed Diop, who is also the vice-president of CANA, showered praises on Team Nigeria for their feat. He revealed that Nigeria could not train like other countries that practiced in France, Monaco and the United States of America ahead of the championship.
