Team Nigeria maintained their winning start to the 2026 NCF Women’s Invitational T20i Tournament with a dominant 136 runs victory over Ghana, yesterday, at the TBS Cricket Oval in Lagos.
Nigeria began their campaign at the fifth edition of the tournament, tagged the “Patricia Kambarami Cup,” on a winning note on Friday, with an emphatic victory over Zimbabwe.
The competition, organised by the Nigeria Cricket Federation, is held in honour of the late Patricia Kambarami, a former Regional Development Manager with ICC Africa, whose contributions significantly boosted the growth of women’s cricket across the continent.
Yesterday at the same venue, Nigeria won the toss and opted to bat, posting a strong total of 159/4 in 20 overs.
Christabel Chukwuonye led the charge with an unbeaten 43 off 27 balls, showing excellent strike rotation and boundary hitting.
Amusa Kehinde Muheebat contributed a steady 36, stabilizing the innings.
Captain Lucky Piety added a quick-fire 23 off 17, giving Nigeria early momentum.
Nigeria maintained a healthy run rate of nearly eight runs per over, finishing strongly to set a daunting target.
Ghana’s chase never got going as Nigeria’s bowlers delivered a ruthless and disciplined performance, bundling Ghana out for just 23 runs in 10.4 overs.
Peace Usen was exceptional, claiming three wickets for nine runs, leading the bowling attack.
Mbam Henrietta also took three wickets, dismantling the lower order, while Favour Effiong chipped in with two wickets, maintaining relentless pressure.
Ghana struggled throughout the innings, unable to build partnerships or counter Nigeria’s disciplined bowling.
The teams will rest today, with matches resuming tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s opening game will see South Africa taking on Zimbabwe, while Nigeria will face Rwanda in the second game of the day.
