Team Nigeria has expressed strong optimism ahead of its Davis Cup World Group I Play-Off clash against Uzbekistan, scheduled for February 6–8 at the historic Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, 1895.
Head Coach of Team Nigeria, Benson Ishicheli, said the players are fully prepared and confident of securing victory to progress to the next stage of the championship.
According to the coach, eight male players are currently in camp and vying for places in the final five-man squad that will represent Nigeria in the play-off.
Ishicheli revealed that preparations have intensified at the National Stadium, Surulere, with the players displaying high fitness levels, sharp form and strong competitive spirit.
“Training has been very encouraging, and the players are responding well,” Ishicheli said. “The final squad will be selected on Saturday, and we are battle-ready for this encounter.
“The Uzbekistan team, comprising players and officials, is expected to arrive in Nigeria on Sunday. At this stage, what we need most is the full support of tennis lovers and sports fans to push the team to victory.”
He appealed to the public to come out in large numbers to cheer the national team during the three-day tie.
Meanwhile, the Publicity Secretary of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, 1895, Prince Kunle Oyekanmi, assured that all logistical and organisational arrangements had been finalised for a successful hosting of the play-off.
He added that the club was intensifying awareness and publicity efforts to ensure a vibrant atmosphere and strong turnout throughout the championship.
