The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Alhassan Yakmut, has said he is fully committed to taking Nigeria back to the top of world’s sports beginning with the Congo 2015 All African Games.

The NSC boss, who disclosed that the commission has put certain measures in place to ensure that it actualised the goal of lifting Nigerian sports to the top, noted that he would not allow detractors any chance to detail his programme.

Speaking on his first three months in office, Yakmut regretted that even as he has already brought some changes to the sports sector, some individuals were bent on distracting him.

He revealed that soon after his appointment, he ensured that the most important success determinants in sports development were given priority attention, adding that to ensure infrastructure and equipment were adequately available and functional for the use of the athletes, he facilitated the commissioning of the athletes hostel in Abuja.

According to Yakmut, the indoor sports hall and gymnasium located at the Package B of the stadium have been  refurbished to allow athletes pursue the commission’s strategic programming system.

“The past three months have been very exciting and tasking especially in making the athletes the most important success determinant in sports development and according attention to the training and quality of coaches.

“The athletes’ hostel in Package B of the National Stadium was completed 13 months before I assumed office as acting director general and with the approval of the immediate past minister of sports, we were able to commission the hostel on May 27.

And that commissioning has saved over N60 million that would have been used to camp athletes in hotels for 30 days.
