Tennis Stars from across the country are currently in Abuja for the on-going 41st Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Tournament holding at the Package ‘B’ of the National Stadium Complex, Abuja. The competition served-off on Thursday and will continue till Saturday June 29, 2019.

Director, CBN’s Corporate Communications Department Mr. Isaac Okorafor, said the CBN Senior Tennis fiesta makes a return to the newly named Moshood Abiola Stadium after the success stories of the 40th edition anniversary held in 2018.

He added that this year’s championship would feature four categories, including men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles and women’s doubles, as well as the men’s and women’s singles categories of the wheel chair events.
The men’s and women’s singles categories will be played in a round of 64 draw chart, where the winners will smile home with the sum of N.7 million each, which is the star prize, in addition to the CBN giant trophy that goes with it.

The runners-up in both categories get N.5 million each. The doubles events will be drawn in a round of 32 chart.

Besides the mouth watering  prize money, Okorafor revealed that the main objective of the annual CBN Senior Tennis Tournament was to discover talents that could represent Nigeria in international competitions like the world championships, the Olympic Games, the Commonwealth Games and the All Africa Games among others.

Okorafor reiterated CBN’s commitment to investing in the development of Nigerian youth, as could be seen from the staging of the CBN Junior Tennis Championship, which held in Lagos last month.
