THE Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and a subsidiary of the corporation, National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), will today begin a two-day tournament tagged, NNPC-NAPIMS Table Tennis championship.

The competition, which will end tomorrow at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, is being organised by the Lagos State Table Tennis Association.

According its chairman, Architect Femi Sokoya, the tournament also christened Chairman’s Cup, is opened to Lagos State ping-pongers with over 100 players expected to compete in categories such as Men and Women’s Singles, as well as Junior Boys and Girls’ Singles.

“This competition is being organised to keep the tempo of the game going in Lagos State and more importantly to discover talents. Don’t forget that Lagos is regarded as the ‘home’ of table tennis in Nigeria and we want to leave nothing to chance to ensure that we live up to the name by giving our players good ground to exhibit their talents,” said Sokoya.

The chairman enjoined lovers of the Ping-Pong game to come out en masse to watch exciting table tennis action from the young players.

He revealed that winners in the various categories would get prizes courtesy of NAPIMS.
