NRFF begins refresher courses for coaches today
The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) will today hold a one-day ‘Get Into Rugby’ refresher course for its new coaches, after which the trainers will be posted to schools.
The ‘Get Into Rugby’ programme was initiated by the world rugby governing body and adopted by the NRFF in 2014 to promote and improve its grassroots developmental programme.
According to the technical department of the federation, the event will kick off by 9.00 a.m. at the conference hall of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Lagos State Chapter secretariat inside the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The programme will be anchored by the Nigeria GIR Coordinator, Tedus Chukwuma, who just returned from a week GIR conference in Stellenbosch, South Africa and facilitated by the Technical Director of the NRFF, Fasimoye Olatunji.
The refresher-coaching course, according to NRFF, will have about 15 coaches from the North and South in attendance, just as the federation makes efforts to cover the South-South and Northern regions in the future.
Commenting on the programme, NRFF president, Sir Edward Fom Pam, said in sports for any nation to aspire for relevance and international titles, there is a need to have a rich reservoir of talents nurtured from the grassroots.
