Officials of the Super Eagles have assured Nigerians that players of the team are fit and ready to battle the Les Fennecs of Algeria to submission when they meet in a crucial Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier in Uyo tomorrow.

Super Eagles’ Manager, Gernot Rohr, yesterday disclosed that the players were 100 percent ready to face the Algerians, even as he added that there was no injury worries in the team.

The Nigerian players, who had their first feel of the Uyo Stadium yesterday, spent three days training in Abuja under the supervision of Rohr and his assistants.

Speaking through the team’s Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, Rohr said the Super Eagles’ quest to beat Algeria and maintain their leadership of Group B was feasible following the seriousness the players have shown in training so far.

He said: “The Super Eagles had two training sessions yesterday morning and evening in Uyo. They had no complains on the pitch. Coach Rohr has been in total control of the planning and conditioning all aimed at beating the Algerians soundly.

“I can also confirm to you that there is no injury worries in the Super Eagles. The game would kick off 5pm on Saturday,’’ he said.
He revealed that the Algerians, who were expected to arrive in Uyo yesterday evening, would have their first training session at the same stadium today.

The Guardian learnt that Algeria have also decided to risk playing Napoli defender, Faouzi Ghoulam, who is nursing a groin injury, against Nigeria tomorrow.

Left back, Ghoulam, has been treated through ultrasound and MRI means and the Algerian medical staff, led by Ali Yekdah, now say he has shown remarkable improvement.

Reports from the North African country say the Algerians are now even more positive about the defender after he trained with the rest of the squad before they departed for Nigeria.

He is very crucial to the plans of Coach Georges Leekens, who knows that the fast Nigerian attack, featuring the likes of Ahmed Musa, Moses Simon and Victor Moses, could exploit his team’s fullback positions and so the need to line up an experienced player like Ghoulam.
