Thorbjorn Olesen has broken into a six-shot lead over the field as the Turkish Airlines Open entered the final round yesterday.Olesen broke the course record with a nine-under par 62 to move to 15 under to leave his challengers grasping for breath with two rounds to go.

His closest rivals, Adrian Otaegui of Spain and Thai, Thongchai Jaidee, are five shots behind the Dane at nine under.Olesen has been relentless in his march to the final weekend, coming into yesterday’s rounds with an impressive six under par 65 on Thursday, and did not show any sign of bulking at the challenge.

After a birdie on the first, he followed up with three more birdies on 6, 8 and 9 to move up to 10 under for the tournament.Earlier, Otaegui had broken the record with a 63 before Olesen went one better to get to 15 under and sit in a comfortable position at the top of the leaderboard.

For the records, Olesen already has three European Tour wins to his name and a victory here would make it three seasons in a row that he has taken home a trophy on Sunday afternoon.

Looking forward to a successful end to the competition, Olesen said, “I feel like I have been up in contention in a lot of big events.
“I feel pretty comfortable. There are still 36 holes to go, so that’s a lot of golf to be played, but I have to keep being aggressive out there. That’s the only way I can win.

“A lot of things can happen on this course. You have quite a lot of water on it and you can get in some trouble.“There are a lot of birdie and eagle chances out there so anything can happen. I have to keep being aggressive out there, keep going after some of the pins and still be aggressive on the greens as well.”

Further down the lane, Danny Willett, who looks to end the season as European number one, cut a frustrated figure, as he lost ground to the leaders.

Willett has been struggling for form lately, but he hit an encouraging opening 69 to raise hopes that he could change the course of his challenge here. But, despite his best efforts, the British Open champion missed birdie chances on each of the first five holes before failing to get up and down from just left of the sixth green.
