Reigning African champions, Blessing Onyebuchi (+70kg) and Mercy Genesis (-50kg) have departed Nigeria for Doha, Qatar, venue of the inaugural World Beach Games.
The pair, alongside coach Victor Kodei, left the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos yesterday via a Qatar Airways flight.
At the tournament, the two athletes will take part in beach wrestling, which is similar to the traditional Kokuwa wrestling.
The 6-day international multi-sport event, which is organized by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), is scheduled to run from October 11-16, with about 1240 athletes from over 90 countries in attendance.
The duo, who claimed African Games gold medals in Morocco a few months ago, will be guided by experienced coach Kodei at the tournament.
