Organisers of the 10th Awa Ibraheem Junior Golf Championship have cleared 110 players to participate in the competition, which begins today at the Ikeja Golf Club, Lagos.

According to the Head, Technical Team, Jide Bolaji, the approved list of boys and girls will still be screened physically by a panel of specialists and anyone found to be over-aged or with a falsified birth certificate or age declaration will not only be removed from the list, but sanctioned from playing other tournaments in the country.

He warned that the accompanying adult or coach of any player found to have collaborated in the attempt to cheat, would be sanctioned accordingly.

Bolaji disclosed that the players are expected to arrive at the venue today for the accreditation slated to begin by 2.00 p.m.

adding that free accommodation would be provided for players coming from outside Lagos.

“Because the competition is a world ranking event by R&A, players from ages 12 to 15 years will play 36 holes on Friday,” he said, adding that the age bracket has been pegged at six to 15 years.

He advised those whose names are not listed for the competition to stay away from the event, while urging the listed players to come with their birth certificates.

According to Bolaji, the championship will abide by the rules of golf as proclaimed by the R&A and the USGA, the Awa Ibraheem Junior Championship rules, as well as the local rules of Ikeja Golf Club.
