Super Eagles and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, has officially been crowned Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) Footballer of the Year.

The award was presented to Osimhen at a ceremony on Monday, 4 December 2023.

Osimhen now joins the likes of Rafael Leao, Gianluigi Buffon, Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrea Prilo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as recipients of the award.

Osimhen was selected as the 2023 winner largely thanks to his goalscoring contributions which helped Napoli win Serie A title last season.

The Nigerian striker scored 26 goals in 32 league appearances to help land a first league title since 1990.

He became the first-ever African to emerge top scorer in the Italian topflight.

Aside from Osimhen, his Napoli teammates were recognized across various categories at the award night.

Despite a tough start to the 2023-24 campaign and recent struggles with injury, Osimhen has scored six in 10 games.
