The Oyo State Sports Council has officially tasked Bolarinwa Kashif, chairman of Fly Fitness, with driving the growth and development of weightlifting in the state following his recent appointment as Chairman of the Oyo State Weightlifting Association.
In a letter signed by the council’s acting general manager, K. A. Ojelowo, the council emphasized that Kashif’s expertise in fitness and sports management would be instrumental in promoting weightlifting, identifying young talents, and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance the sport’s popularity and competitiveness.
“From your background, it is hoped that you will use your appointment for the development of weightlifting in Oyo State and elevate it to greater heights,” the statement read.
Kashif, in his response, assured that he would leverage his experience in the fitness industry to introduce innovative programs that would encourage participation in weightlifting and establish a strong foundation for the sport’s future in the state.
“This is a great responsibility, and I intend to work closely with the Oyo State Sports Council to create programs that will encourage youth participation and ensure weightlifting gains the recognition it deserves,” he said.
It is believed that this appointment could mark a turning point for weightlifting in Oyo State, which has often been overshadowed by other sports.
Many anticipate that under Kashif’s leadership, weightlifting could gain more visibility, sponsorship, and competitive success at the state and national levels due to his experience in the industry.
