Rangers return to top of NPFL league table

Rangers International FC of Enugu has returned to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table with 21 points.

Rangers International FC of Enugu has returned to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table with 21 points.

The Coal City side on Sunday regained their position after an NPFL week 11 encounter in which Rangers defeated Ifeanyi Uba FCb of Nnewi 1-0.

The match was decided amid showers of rain at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

In the match played on Saturday evening, Rangers striker Chisom Egbuchulam scored the only goal of the match in the fifth minute of play during struggle inside the 18 of the visiting team.

However, the Nnewi side did all they could, dominating the second half but could not find the net of the home team.
Rangers Technical Adviser, Imama Amapakabo praised his boys for sticking to game-plan.

“As you can see, the match was highly technical and tension-filled.

“Overtime, Ifeanyi Uba FC has been known to be technically sound and resilient in their pattern of play.

“However, we thank God for giving us the day and our return to the top of the league table once more,’’ Amapakabo said.

The Manager of Ifeanyi Uba FC, Mitko Dobrev, said that his team had a hard-time at the stadium, especially as it had 65 per cent of ball possession.

“We played well and we did put Rangers under intense pressure throughout the second half of the match but we were unlucky not to score a goal today,’’ Dobrev said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the highlight of the match was the presence of Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State at the stadium.

During the 15 minutes rest time after the first half of play, Ugwuanyi went to the dressing room of Rangers and addressed them on the need for them to regain their position at the top of the league.
Notwithstanding the rain, fans still made it to the stadium.

Ifeanyi Uba FC came to the stadium with four luxury bus load of its supporters.
