If everything works according to their plans, the Rangers Football Club of Enugu’s delegation to their CAF Champions League second round, second leg match against Angola’s Sagrada Esperanca will leave for the Southern Africa country tomorrow.
According to an official of the team, Rangers returned to Enugu on Sunday, from Uyo, where they played the first leg of the match last Friday. The management staff of the team were supposed to meet with the Enugu State government on Monday to finalise travelling arrangements ahead of the team’s departure either tomorrow or Friday.
The official, who pleaded anonymity, told The Guardian that the plan is to see if the state government can charter a flight that will take the team direct to Angola, and bring them back immediately after the game.
“You know because of the harsh weather conditions in Angola, our plan is to jet in before the effect starts affecting the players, play the game, and jet out.
“If that is not possible, then we want to go early and get acclimatised to the weather before the game. All these will depend on the response that we get from the state government.”
The Guardian learnt that the team resumed training in Enugu, on Monday and are expected to arrive in Lagos today, and travel either tomorrow or Friday as the case may be.
Rangers won the first leg of the game in Uyo by 1-0 and need a draw to qualify for the next stage of the Champions League. Nigeria’s other representative in the CAF Champions League, Remo Stars, were eliminated in the first round of the competition by Morocco’s AS FAR Rabat.
