Red House wins Mater Dei School’s sixth sports festival

House has won the sixth Mater Dei Model School Sports Festival held at the school’s sports ground, Okota, Lagos State.

During the meet, which featured basketball, table tennis, soccer, athletics, sack and egg race, dressing competition among others, in both the junior and senior categories, Red House got six gold, three silver and six bronze medals, securing a total of 35 points. Blue House clinched second with two gold, four silver and three bronze medals, having 29 points, while Yellow House came third with three gold, three silver and three bronze medals, making 21 points.

Green House settled for the fourth position with two gold, two silver and two bronze medals, having 20 points.
Speaking at the end of the competition, the school’s administrator, Agiliga Okorodudu described sports as a factor, which enhances teamwork and unify both academics and sporting activities, as well as build the Nigerian child “educationally, psychologically and mentally” for a brighter future.

“We try and make sure that what we impart into the child is not just ability to read their books, but also give them holistic education, making sure that the child is well grounded. Look at the way the world is revolving, it is not enough to go to school; children and adults are making money from singing, dancing and sports as well. Some students don’t have the ability to retain what they are taught book wise, but they know how to play football and so we encourage them,” she added.
