Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has been left out of Portugal’s 23-man squad for the friendlies against Russia and Luxembourg to give him a rest, his coach said on Friday.

Fernando Santos said he wants to “manage the efforts” of his players in the lead-up to Euro 2016 and has also left out Danny, Tiago, Fabio Coentrao and Miguel Veloso.

Portugal, who won their Euro qualifying Group I, play Russia in London on November 13 and then travel to Luxembourg four days later.
