Youth Judo campIn order to prepare their judokas for the 19th National Sports Festival and other national championships, the Southwest states will hold a preparatory championship in Ibadan, the zone’s representative on the board Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF), Musa Oshodi, has revealed.

Oshodi said the two-day championship, which is in collaboration with the National Sports Commission (NSC) South/West Zone 1, would begin tomorrow and end on Thursday at the indoor sports hall of Obafemi Awolowo Stadium Ibadan.

He urged the judokas in the zone to put in their best to enhance their opportunity of earning call ups for international engagements, adding that he plans to organise competitions to keep the athletes fit at all times.

“The problem facing many other sports, apart from football, is dearth of competition and we in the Southwest cannot fold our arms and watch our judokas rot away without having opportunity of engaging in competitive bouts,” Oshodi noted.

Teams from the Southwest states, including Lagos, Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti and the host, Oyo, are expected to arrive in Ibadan tomorrow with their contingents.

Judo clubs of the Nigerian Police Force, National Security and Civil Defense Corp, the University of Ibadan and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile–Ife, would also be part of the tourney.
