Stankovic Cup: D’Tigers beat China 79-71

Nigeria’s senior national male basketball team, D’Tigers, began their Olympic preparation on a good note yesterday by beating the China, hosts of the Four-Nation 2016 Stankovic Cup in Beijing, 79 to 71.

Nigeria’s senior national male basketball team, D’Tigers, began their Olympic preparation on a good note yesterday by beating the China, hosts of the Four-Nation 2016 Stankovic Cup in Beijing, 79 to 71.

The coach of the Chinese team, Gong Luming, blamed his team’s loss on the absence of his key player and former  NBA star, Yi Jianlian. Nigerian also played without some of its key players, including Al-Farouq Aminu, who just concluded his basketball camp in Ibadan at the weekend, his brother, Alade, NBA star, Victor Ezeli and new NBA draft, Mike Gbinije.

The quartet is expected to join the team in Las Vegas after the Stankovic Cup to continue preparations for the Olympics.

D’Tigers next game comes up tomorrow against Argentina, while China will play France, who beat Argentina, 64-57 yesterday.

“The opening of the game was not good, we didn’t play as a team in offence and there are too much individual play,” said Gong Luming, the coach of Chinese team.
