The Super Falcons will face the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in two friendly matches as part of their preparation for the upcoming 13th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. Head Coach Justine Madugu has invited 23 players for the matches scheduled for Saturday, May 31, at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo, and Tuesday, June 3, at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.
Among those called up are captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Michelle Alozie, midfielder Toni Payne, and forward Rinsola Babajide. Other defenders invited include Osinachi Ohale, Oluwatosin Demehin, and Shukurat Oladipo, while midfielders Deborah Abiodun and Jennifer Echegini are also part of the squad.
Forwards Ifeoma Onumonu and Francisca Ordega complete the list of notable players.
The Super Falcons will use these games as part of their buildup for the AFCON, which runs from July 5 to 26.
Cameroon, which did not qualify for this year’s finals, will use the friendlies to maintain match fitness.
All players have been instructed to arrive at the Am2pm Hotel in Ijebu-Ode on Monday, May 26.
Nigeria, a nine-time AFCON champion, will face Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana in Group B of the tournament.
Meanwhile, at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, the Golden Eaglets and the Flamingos have added excitement to the event. The Golden Eaglets are already through to the football quarter-finals after a win against Edo State and a draw with Delta State. The Flamingos, who recently qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup finals, have drawn with Abia State and defeated Delta State. They will next play Lagos State and Enugu State.
The Flying Eagles, Nigeria’s U20 boys’ team, returned to the country after winning bronze at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt and securing qualification for the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.
