The traditional ruler of Ikate-Elegushi in Eti-Osa, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, has donated three modern tennis courts to the Lagos State University (LASU).

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) standard tennis courts were part of the facilities used for the recently concluded Federation of African University Sports (FASU) games, hosted by LASU and the University of Lagos.

Speaking when he inspected the facilities during the closing ceremony of the FASU Games, Oba Elegushi said: “Our intervention is to ensure that we promote sports even at the university level. If we want the students to turn away from crime and criminality, we should provide the facilities that they need to recreate and spend time outside their academic schedule.”

The monarch promised to institute a yearly tennis competition in the university, replicating a similar competition in his honour at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.

While thanking the traditional ruler for the gesture, LASU Vice Chancellor, Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, said that Oba Elegushi has continued to demonstrate his love for his alma mater, noting that the university is proud to have the traditional ruler as one of its alumni.

“I want to thank our royal father, Oba Saheed Elegushi for this donation.  As an alumnus, he is always coming through for the university, and this is another one and we are very grateful,” she added.
