After their victory at the IHF Women’s Trophy Africa Continental Phase recently, the Nigerian U18 women handball team will participate in the Africa Women’s Youth Nations Championship, which will hold in Monastir, Tunisia from September 16 to 23.

In a draw ceremony held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, ahead of the African tourney, Nigeria were drawn in group A alongside Guinea, Algeria and two times champion, Tunisia.

Group B has defending champion and the most successful team in the championship with four titles, Egypt, three-time finalist Angola, DR Congo and Morocco.

Nigeria will be participating for the first time in the championship after they came second in the first edition in the year 2000 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

The Africa championship serves as qualifiers for the 2024 IHF Women’s Youth World Handball Championship. According to the Nigeria Hand Federation, the U-18 girls team has never qualified for the world championship and this is an opportunity for the country to make history.
