Ugwuanyi becomes Enugu Sports Club’s president

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has said that his inauguration as the President of Enugu Sports Club would further spur him into more result-oriented actions that would shore up sustainable socio-economic well-being of the state.

Ugwuanyi in a speech after his investiture as the president of the club in Enugu expressed appreciation to the people of the state for making it possible for him to serve the reputable club through their votes that brought him into power as governor and promised to justify the trust reposed in him.

While assuring that his government would support the club, he called on the wealthy members of the club and others to key into its programmes and projects to ensure the elite club made its desired contributions to society.

Earlier, chairman of the club, Barr. Obum Arum, had thanked Governor Ugwuanyi for appointing some of the club’s members into his cabinet, adding that the gesture would ensure cooperation that could translate to rapid development of the state.

Also in a speech at the event, a philanthropist, Chief Arthur Eze, donated N25 million to the club, saying it was a unifying instrument for the Igbo race.

He called on Ndigbo to support
President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in order to attract the needed benefits to them.

Also in a brief remark, the former Minister of Information and
Aviation of Nigeria, Chief Nnia Nwodo, expressed hope that the new era of the club under Governor Ugwuanyi will usher in a unique development in the history of the people of the zone.

Enugu Sports Club is an elite and family membership club formed in
1929 as then an exclusive European club.

It now has a nominal membership of over 1000 families drawn from across Nigeria and beyond.
