A GRASSROOTS soccer competition organised by the Faith Revival Ministries World Outreach a.k.a. Victory Christian Church tagged: 3D Football Tournament, kicked off in Lagos recently. The event is in commemoration of the ministry’s 30 years anniversary.

The championship created for junior secondary school students, a replica of the Principals Cup, will feature 16 public schools selected from four Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). Each LCDA, including Oriade Local Government, Amuwo Odofin, Ojo Local Government and Iba Local Government, will be represented by four schools.

Speaking at the unveiling of the competition, the General Overseer of the ministry, Apostle Nkechi Frances Anayo, said: “The challenge makes the participating schools fight for the prize while the competition increases their level. There would be 32 explosive matches; the competition is among four schools each from the four local governments, which represent a total of 16 schools. We have decided to give 32 computers, two each to all the participating schools. The cash prizes will go to the players as a reward for their efforts.”

Charging the youths to remain focused in order to maximise their potentials, Apostle Anayo, said: “The tournament is a drive to discover and develop talents from the competition. Success begins with a step, these young talents have the opportunity to make a career for themselves if they so desired. Everything is a choice, we have provided the platform our intention is to support them and make them stay in the right path.”

Also explaining reason for the competition, coordinator of the football event, Pastor Jimmy Amosu, said: “What the competition is all about is to discover youths that have talents from the grassroots. We are looking at a competition like the Principal Cup played by the secondary school students”.
“The junior students don’t have such competition, so what happens if they are talented? How are they exposed and how are they discovered? So, we are using this opportunity to unearth talents, not undermining our own celebration, the 30th year anniversary of our great ministry.”

In the opening match, Amuwo Junior Secondary School defeated Model College Agric 2-0.
