Super Eagles manager, José Peseiro believes that the Super Eagles must give their maximum so as to guarantee victory against the Wild Dogs of Guinea-Bissau in their 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

The Super Eagles will play host to Guinea-Bissau in a match-day three Group A fixture of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers which is scheduled to take place at the Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola stadium in Abuja on Friday.

After two games played so far in the AFCON qualification series, the Eagles are leading the group standings, having garnered a total of six points while Guinea-Bissau are second with four points.

The last time the Eagles faced Guinea-Bissau was in the group stage of the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon which the former won 2-0.

But Peseiro is wary of the threat Guinea-Bissau will pose and believes it is only if his players give maximum performance that victory can be assured.

“Guinea-Bissau was at the last AFCON, they currently have four points after beating São Tomé and drawing with Sierra Leone,” Peseiro said in his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

“They are a team with good quality, they will try to defend here and rely on counter attack but it is now left for us to put our commitment into the game.

“There are no easy matches and if we don’t give our maximum, we won’t beat Guinea-Bissau,” the Portuguese football tactician said about the encounter.

Peseiro was also quizzed by journalists at the pre-match presser on his strange decision to extend an invitation to Flying Eagles captain, Daniel Bameyi.

“I had more time with the Under-20 team, I watched their training and I chose Bameyi because he is a defender who can play centre-back and right back,” he said while praising Bameyi’s versatility.

“There are other players, of course but if you observe, I chose two right-backs, two left-backs, two centre-backs, four midfielders, four wingers and four strikers.“
