• Onigbinde urges support for coach

Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has assured Nigerians that only the best players will represent the country in the forthcoming Gabon 2017 African Nations Cup qualifiers.

The coach, who said he would use the friendly games against Congo and Cameroun in Belgium this week to look at the players available for selection, added the team has a rich pool of starts to pick a formidable squad from.

Speaking through the team’s Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, Oliseh reassured that all the invited players would get equal chance to prove themselves in the friendly.

The team had their first training session on Monday with 15 players at the R. Battice FC training ground.

Meanwhile, former Super Eagles Coach,
Adegboye Onigbinde, has called on Nigerians to rally round Oliseh in the task of rebuilding the national team.

Onigbinde said: “As a patriotic Nigerian in the first instance, I wish my national team and their handlers the best of luck. I always look forward to very good results for the Eagles. But again, as things are, some of us said a lot of things before he was employed, and we were branded in various forms. But all I was particular about as a Nigerian was whether he was qualified to come and serve his fatherland or not.”

The former CAF and FIFA technical instructor, who still expressed reservations over the former Eagles captain’s capability, said: “One thing that one must understand is that being a player is different from been a coach.

“I expressed my feelings about his level of experience as a coach but that has become history now. I have a way of life, which is, once something is going to happen and I have my reservations about it, I express it. But once it has happened, I have to adjust myself to it and move on with my life.”
