Arsenal new recruit David Luiz said he joined the Gunners in a deadline day move because he wanted new challenges.

The Brazilian centre back would be linking up with Arsenal boss Unai Emery with whom he worked at PSG in France.

“In my life, I’ve always liked to do some challenges,” Luiz told the club website. “I’m not scared at all to try things.

“When I had an opportunity to come to this kind of big club, I had to take it. That’s why I’m here.

Luiz’s £8 million move from Chelsea to Arsenal on a two-year deal will help add bite to the London side’s leaky defence.

The Gunners conceded 51 goals last season, a record that stalled their Champions League return.

“David has huge experience and I look forward to working with him again. He is a well-known player and adds to our defensive strength,” said Emery.

Luiz played 11 games in the colours of Chelsea against Arsenal. He’s relishing the opportunity to go up against his former club in Arsenal jersey this season.

“This is the best game for the players – the players have to enjoy these kinds of games,” he said. “For me, it was not different. I was always excited to play big games and I still love to play in these big games.”
